S09E01 – Bully for Ben

Episode Summary
- Ben is having difficulty find the right words to write in Susan’s anniversary card despite fierce prompting from Janey. She heads off with Michael and Alfie to the local pub quiz – Ben is insulted that they have invited Roger but not him, but he invites himself along anyway. The team don’t appear to be doing so well in the quiz - Alfie points out that a player on another team has been cheating by texting all night. Ben decides to go and have a word and confronts Barry, the phone cheat, which leads to him being invited outside to sort out their disagreement! Ben only dreams he knocks Barry out! Determining to get into better shape, Ben orders gym equipment and starts to exercise – only to be found by Michael and Alfie on the floor in pain. Noticing all the gym equipment Michael asks if Ben intends having a rematch with Barry from the pub. Ben explains that he was bullied at school by Danni Jarvis and swore never to be on the receiving end of pain again. Michael thinks Ben should fight Barry and stand up for all bullied children. Ben reveals that his school bully, Danni, was in fact a girl – much to the delight of Janey, Michael and Alfie. And so they head off to the pub where Ben is flummoxed when Barry offers an apology. In order to save face in front of his children, Ben asks Barry to stage the fight, but inadvertently knocks a tray of drinks from the barmaid’s hands. She throws him along the bar – he looks up and realises said barmaid is Danni the Bully! Eventually, Ben hands Janey the anniversary card to post – it has actually been written by young Kenzo!
