Episode Summary
- Ben has been shopping with Michael, Michael is upset because Ben was talking to his friends and his flies were undone. Susan is writing to Janey, who needs money for her phone which has been cut off. Susan has been snooping in Michael’s bedroom and she has found a letter to them from the school, inviting them to a fund raiser, which Michael had hidden. Michael had hidden it because he doesn’t want them to go. Susan is pledging a tour, and she tricks Ben into pledging a double session scale and polish. Ben and Susan attend the auction. Ben tries unsuccessfully to avoid Mr Spufford, who has bad breath, and wants an appointment with him. Susan’s tour fetches £150 and the bidding starts for Ben’s scale and polish. Ben bids against Mr Spufford. Ben gets carried away and bids £1,000 for his own treatment. Susan bids for a therapy session. Susan and Ben go to their session with Dr Connor. Dr Connor is Neurotic, and obsessed with giving up smoking. She is using Nicotine patches. Ben and Susan disagree as to where they should sit, Ben finally choses the bean bag, Susan tells him to move, so Ben ends up crawling on all fours onto the sofa. Tension builds, and Dr Connor adds more patches. We see Susan as a Drill Sergeant, Ben slouching on the sofa with Susan bringing him food. Ben says she never brings him food and we see another clip of Susan bringing in olives to him. We see clips of the children from earlier episodes. Susan admits that she would prefer her grandmother’s maiden name as she had been illegitimate, so no men were involved. Dr Connor wants to delve into their sex lives but Susan says it is fine, which Ben takes to mean it’s great. Ben is upset that he never read Janey bedtime stories. Just as he decides he would finally like to join in the session the time is up . Susan catches Ben reading Peter Rabbit down the phone to Janey’s answer machine. Ben is now seen reading children's’ stories to Michael!
